Oh and a Ford transit made in S Africa.

I thought that the Transit factory was in Belgium? Remember the heady days of Dagenham? :wubbers:

For those of us who owned Dagenham Dustbins (mine was a Mk1 Escort, MHO 852F) the days were hardly 'heady'...

FOMOCO on the genuine parts?

I went down the GM branch when it came to that era, better suspension

The US said a 25% tax on steel and 10% tax on aluminium from the EU, Mexico and Canada will start at midnight.

The move immediately triggered vows of retaliation from Mexico, Canada and the EU, which called the tariffs "protectionism, pure and simple".

The UK said it was "deeply disappointed" by the US decision, which followed weeks of negotiations.

Which look like a practice run for our post-Brexit negotiations for free trade agreements.

That is, a shambles.

I was born in England, and moved to the U.S 20 years ago. I love the place, glad I got out of the shit that Britain was and It's only got worse since then.
America will survive, It's a waiting game. Europe is on the verge of imploding and pretty soon you will be at each others throats fighting for scraps. Were big enough that we can make and use any materials we want to rebuild renew our infa-structure at home.
What do you do, put a tariff on Harley davidson a company that's going out of business anyway here lol.
How do you think Britain will do in a trade war with anyone. You produce fuck all and what you do produce can and is made cheaper else where.
Canada can't sustain a trade war with as nor can Mexico.
It might be that Trump wants to close the borders so that no one who is illegal gets in from both borders.
Wait and see Mexico be the first to beg Trump to stop and offer anything Trump wants.
We might be heading to ww111, and it will begin again in Europe. Don't bet On America bailing you out this time.

:pmsl: :pmsl: :pmsl:

I had the 'pleasure' of business trips to the States recently - Atlanta, St Louis and Detroit.

Shitholes, one and all. Everything run down, closed down or falling down.

From personal experience, you are whistling in a very cold wind.

I've seem the future of the US..... good luck starting trade wars. You will lose.

Absolutely agree with you, shitholes one and all, and do you know who runs those shitholes?
They same people who want to base America on how Europe is run.
I wouldn't visit those places if you paid me to.
How the fuck they could destroy What Detroit was and turn it into the bankrupt shithole it now is. Just proves they shouldn't be allowed to run a race. But that's the Democrats for you lol
Your post proved my point. About where you're heading.
It must piss you off no end having to post on an American hosted site.

Rest assured, if the US economy was in good shape, those cities would be too.

Seems that you are in the 'good times are a'comin' camp - dream on. For every steel and aluminium job you gain, you will lose ten from lost exports.

And as a reminder EU growth was 2.4% in the last year. And that included Greece and Spain.....

The European Commission has advised EU businesses to think twice before using parts and components made in Britain, because of a decision by Theresa May to take the UK out of the bloc’s customs union.

The advice, which has the potential to seriously harm Britain’s automotive industry, instructs European businesses like car manufacturers to look elsewhere for parts if they want to continue benefiting from EU free trade agreements.

For car manufacturers based on the continent, this means using British-made components could now harm their access to dozens of countries the EU has free trade agreements with – making their exports uncompetitive compared to businesses that use EU-sourced components.

If a company sources a significant part of its product from the UK, “appropriate steps” would entail sourcing those components elsewhere to keep access to under free trade agreements.

Sky News also reports a separate note sent from the Dutch government to businesses echoing the European Commission’s advice. A car industry executive told the broadcaster said the change was a “catastrophe” for the car industry.

Remember "THEY NEED US MORE THAN WE NEED THEM" ??

Trump:

"If they retaliate they're making a tremendous mistake because you see we have a tremendous trade imbalance...the numbers are so much against them, we win that war 1000 times out of a 1000."

That 'special relationship' is looking even tattier now...

Donald Trump failed to name Theresa May among his closest allies as he walked out of the G7 summit early with a blast at its members for “robbing” the US.

In an extraordinary closing press conference, the US president attacked the world’s other economic powers, telling reporters: “We are like the piggy bank that everyone is robbing.”

He insisted his relationship with other G7 leaders was “a 10”, despite deep rifts over Russia and steel tariffs – but, strikingly, without mentioning the British prime minister.

“I would say that the level of relationships is a 10. We have a great relationship – Angela [Merkel] and Emmanuel [Macron] and Justin [Trudeau],” he said.

Oh dear - no holding hands and running barefoot through the wheat fields with Treeza anymore. Actually, there have been claims the US president has told allies that he resents her “school mistress” tone – and he snubbed the idea of formal talks between the pair at the two-day get-together.

Trump BACKS OUT of G7 agreement: President stuns leaders by leaving summit and then announcing on Twitter that America WILL NOT 'endorse the Communique' - before slamming 'dishonest and weak' Trudeau

Trump slammed Trudeau as 'dishonest and weak' on Twitter Saturday after leaving the G7 summit in Quebec
Stunned world leaders by pulling his endorsement for joint communique that traditionally follows every G7
Opened new front on trade dispute with Trudeau after White House said two leaders were 'close to a deal'
French presidential official says Trump delivered 'a long, frank rant' on trade in G7 session with world leaders
Now Trump is en route to Singapore for historic summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un on June 12

If Kim has any sense, he won't believe a word he says or trust him/US in any way. Iran will testify to that.

The whole world outside of the GOP is coming to that conclusion.
