Corbyn unleashes plan to block hard Brexshit

Corbyn unleashes plan to block hard Brexshit

Postby Guest » Tue Jun 05, 2018 7:55 pm

Labour tonight unveiled its latest bid to shape Brexit, demanding full single market access.

The party published amendments to the flagship EU (Withdrawal Bill), which returns to the Commons on Tuesday.

In a softening of its position, Labour calls for common minimum standards, rights and protections with Brussels, and “full access to the internal market of the European Union, underpinned by shared institutions and regulations”.

The party still rules out membership of the European Economic Area - an option many of its backbenchers, such as one-time leadership hopeful Chuka Umunna, want left on the table.

But the fresh move will be seen as an attempt to quell a potential backbench rebellion over the EEA, which threatens to embarrass Jeremy Corbyn .

I, and many, many others in the Labour Party believe that Brexit should be stopped.

Corbyn needs to come to his senses and heed the will of his party, and get off the fence.

If he hasn't done so by September (party conference) he will be pushed off it.

Absolutely right.

Sadly, Labour have some silly habits involving feet and mouths, self destruction and massive contradictions.

Just under 1 year ago, Corbyn announced that a Labour government would leave the single market.

It is hard to believe now that May called a general election last year because she thought her stance on Brexit would help her win a thumping victory over Jeremy Corbyn and Labour.

What was supposedly a key May issue has now turned toxic, to the extent that Corbyn has yet again notched up a solid PMQs win on the topic, seemingly quite effortlessly.

He did so by the simple expedient of asking when the government’s Brexit white paper would be published.

Toxic indeed. Labour will gladly allow Treeza and the Tories to own Brexit - it's a sure fire vote loser.

And only 6 months before that (Jan 2017) he said that he wanted to stay in the single market

The TTIP created problems for some on the left - including some in the Labour Party.

Corbyn doesn't make the decision on where Labour stands on Brexit - the Labour party does.

Meanwhile, Treeza has taken a real beating in PMQs, seemingly unable to even tell the house when the promised Brexit white paper will appear.

And if she doesn't know that........

Corbyn was an absolute boss at PMQs today. What a legend of a man.
