Which foods would you miss most if you emigrated?

Postby Ray of Sunshine » Thu Jul 05, 2018 10:23 am

I think mine would be crumbly cheese; Cheshire, Wensleydale or Lancashire.

Wouldn't be able to get those abroad.

And Rich Tea biscuits.

All of those are available abroad, Ray - fear not.

Ray has no point...

...that aside, all the cheeses he mentions are available for direct supply.

Depends where you move doesn't it?

Could move to France or Germany and get it via the internet but further afield you couldn't.

EDIT: Seems you can.

Doubtless expensive to get it shipped in a chilled container to San Francisco or somewhere though.

I lived in Czech Republic before it joined the EU, don't tell the tax avoiding media but I signed on there and claimed child benefit for my daughter there. There was so much NEW food to try, one wasn't bothered about foods when there was a plate of St Vaclav's pupik in front of you. A chicken fillet, thin slice of ham, half a peach, covered in cheese with salad and chips, glass of wine. (pupik is a term for belly button) :smilin:

We had English cheese when I was in the Far East and in Africa before the internet. And I know for a fact that you can get English foods in LA because I have family there.

I live in Cumbria, hardly the epicentre of civilisation, and you can buy Monterrey Jack cheese and other American foods here locally, not to mention Chinese (from China not Liverpool), Polish, German, all manner of stuff.

Perhaps you need to get out more, Ray? :dunno:

Monterrey Jack is not really a fair comparison is it?

It's the most popular cheese in America along with cheddar, must be hundreds of producers.

Anyway did you miss the "nice threads only, no trolling" bit or what?

Of course it is, there's Monterrey Jack and then there's generic Monterrey Jack - just as there's Cheddar and there's generic Cheddar. Try not to judge everyone by your standards, Ray - we are not all peasants you know. :snooty:

I was talking about Cheshire, and Wensleydale, not Cheddar.

Getting a bit sick of your sniding though.

But you said that Monterey Jack was the most popular cheese in a America so I not unreasonably compared it with our most popular cheese, Cheddar.

And try not be so touchy, son, it's only chit-chat - nice wins the day.

Stop spamming your boring garbage all over the snug.

What part of "no trolling" do you not understand?

Strange too because McAz is usually quite the amateur mod on here.
