Tory officials opened the inquiry into the former foreign secretary after receiving complaints about his widely-criticised remarks.

The probe could, in theory, lead to the MP being expelled from the party.

It won't.

Ranks will be closed. Lessons will be learned. And ignored.

I don’t see why he couldn’t have chosen a more mature way to discuss the burka.

So you are saying it is a showcase hearing(behind closed doors) just to pretend the matter is being taken seriously?
I tend to agree with you, if they demand he publicly apologise we all know he won't and the proverbial will hit the fan big time.

100 Muslim women demand Tories kick out Johnson

100 British Muslim women who wear a burka or niqab have written to Conservative chair Brandon Lewis, demanding Boris Johnson be kicked out of the party.

...an apology would be "insufficient", Mr Johnson made a "deliberate choice" to "inflame tensions in a way that makes it easier for bigots to justify hate crime against us".

They speak as "free women who are able to speak for ourselves and make our own choices"

(Sky News via MSN 9/8/18)

Hope he doesn't concede - this is great stuff.

It will prove far more divisive, it is not that simple. I fear that some people could get physically hurt as splits open up

The people you support should have thought of that before they chose to sow dissent then.

I don't support anything that could lead to social unrest, please don't tar me with the broad brush you apply to anyone who simply doesn't agree with you.

You clearly know that in our, on the surface, peaceful society there are ugly undercurrents and Boris's comments could cause matters to simmer to the surface and boil over and innocents to get hurt.

You shouldn't have cheered him on if you were concerned about social unrest.

Boris is an extremely well educated man and he is a very capable human being, however it is a fact that he has caused a bit of a shitstorm.
Was it his aim to create a dialogue on Burkas?
I really don't know but he has stirred up a hornets nest for sure, people on both sides of the Burka issue are commenting.
Commenting is great but abusing Burka wearers is not
