Did you, or do you remember

Polishing glass windows with news paper and vinegar.

Join the mile high club doing a halo jump.

Just memories of things as they where or fantastically silly or obscure thoughts.

Frowned upon if your doorstep wasn't clean.

And I can confirm that vinegar is still the best glass cleaner, bar none. Dunno about newspaper, do people still buy them? :gigglesnshit:

It was a great shame to not have the house and doorstep in sparkling order.

People did not have much - and my parents told me the criminals always worked well away from their own areas - people knew who they were.

Anyone who robbed or hurt hurt someone in their own street was looking at a group beating or far worse.

Not 'PC' - but perhaps more effective than today when the victim of crime is never considered over the rights of the criminal.

The Corona pop lorry. Used to turn up once a week. Swap your empty glass bottles for new bottles.

When I was a kid:
only 3 channels on tv and no remote :gigglesnshit:
people smoked everywhere
rotary dial phones
nearly every kid walked to school unless they lived far away and took a bus
we went home for lunch
soda was a treat
people rarely ate while walking about
no helmets while riding bicycles
no seat belts

Do you remember Jimmy Saville doing the 'Clunk Click Every Trip' advert?
In hindsight, such a poor choice..... :paranoid:

Yes. :ooer:

PIF's - brilliant stuff and I would love to see the outrage on social media if any of them were shown today.

I grew up in Canada so thankfully no. :gigglesnshit:

We had our own safety adverts though, blood flows red on the highway and other lovely titles to frighten the bejeebus out of us. :yikes:

just joshing :gigglesnshit: haven't a clue who the old dear is.

lunch - school dinners for me, I remember the smell of cabbage wafting throughout the school all day.

school milk - warm in the summer and iced up during the winter.

we used to have a 'mobi', a tatty little van which visited our street every evening where we could buy black jacks, fruit salads (4 for a penny iirc) and other teeth rotting chews. the 'pop man' visiting once a week, a treat.

threepenny bits.

anyone owning a car in our street was thought of as rich.

front room only used on a Sunday.

'steery' - a go-cart usually made from old pram wheels, wood from scrounged old doors and string to steer. no brakes :yikes:

Sunday best clothes.

'looseys' - when you could buy cigs loose from the corner shop.

often the tops pecked at by the birds.

I used to love the bottled orange juice from the milkman but expensive so it was a rare treat.
