Surely it would work the same way as other measures against foreign countries where the US would block arms companies for reasons of national interests

An example of this in practise earlier this year

The US are probably more 'stuck' than UK in that they have massive commercial interests physically in SA, such as Lockheed and Boeing employing thousands of SA and US nationals. Lockheed is also the worlds largest defence company with Boeing a close second. Trump is anxious not to rock the boat too much on that quarter.
https://www.ndtv.com/world-news/trump-w ... di-1932655

But then this turned up;

Khashoggi Family Had Deep Connections to Lockheed Martin

Khashoggi's personal and family history and his deep connections to the military-industrial complex in the United States, as well as the highest levels of the Saudi state. So who's demanding accountability from the Saudis now? Some figures you might not expect, such as Senators Lindsey Graham and Marco Rubio, US politicians who can more typically be found advancing the cause of military interventions and coups d'etat against governments adversarial to the United States.

"It's up to the president [to decide what to do]. I know what I'm gonna do: I'm gonna sanction the hell out of Saudi Arabia. We deal with bad people all the time, but this is in our face… they have nothing but contempt for us," Graham said. "This guy's gotta go. Saudi Arabia, if you're listening, there's a lot of good people you can choose, but MBS has tainted your country and tainted himself."

Now being reported that Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has heard an alleged audio recording of Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi's murder inside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, according to a senior Turkish official. Yesterday, on his way back from Istanbul, Pompeo was asked if he had heard the audio. "I don’t have anything to say about that," he said.

Later in the day, Trump told reporters that "it certainly looks like" Khashoggi is dead and described it as "bad stuff."

A screw seems to be turning on Saudi.
I wonder what the real agenda is behind this story.

Who'd be a 'journo' today eh? Always thought war correspondents work was dicy enough but now just being a 'journo' who prints something someone doesn't like is enough to get you murdered.

God alone knows. It's like something straight out of a Bond movie but it seems the west has misjudged bin Salman.

I suspect the Saudi Royals and there are thousands of them are about to be dumped by the west.
They've served their purpose maybe.
The amount of gold money property that most western nations could loot is vast and then there's the oil.
How much oil do they really have?
If an alternative to oil was to be found or they ran out the reality for the thirty million living there is disaster. The royals would flee with everything of value and the people left to kill each other over scarce everything.

Saudi Arabian Oil Is Running Out And That Will Affect Long-Term Oil Markets

Just how big are Saudi Arabia’s oil reserves, really? (Believe it or not it's a secret)
It is a question that has intrigued and confounded oil experts for five decades.

Then we have Bahrain .... more important to America than Saudi?
It might well be and the Saudis have been messing with them.

Then there's the greater Israel project that takes in a fair chunk of the place.

If Saudi goes down it's goodbye billions for Britain.

The cosying up to Russia of course and the threat it brings to Raytheon and Lockheed Martin Boeing etc might well mean punishment time.

When the public are being fed and led such an amazing story you can be pretty sure that story distracts from what's really going on.

The Saudis have really fucked up and miscalculated badly in their botched attempts to secretly assassinate the poor man in question.

I am guessing that they might lose a lot of support and other nations will want to distance themselves and work toward other forms of energy for travel purposes.

And I think you are correct when the oil sales dry up there could be civil discord and the Royals flying out with all the wealth.

All those $Billions promoting wahhabism around the world will disappear, so that will be good news anyway.

I dont think there is a 'real agenda' just a case of bad PR.

Even spineless western journalists have to draw the line somewhere - they can overlook the Saudi's committing genocide in Yemen but killing a fellow journalist (one based in America and working for the Washington Post) is a step too far.

For the businesses threatening to pullout its also down to PR - they probably fear a customer backlash.

Right wing media have been carrying out a smear campaign against Khashoggi.

Conservatives mount a whisper campaign smearing Khashoggi in defense of Trump

Hard-line Republicans and conservative commentators are mounting a whispering campaign against Jamal Khashoggi that is designed to protect President Trump from criticism of his handling of the dissident journalist’s alleged murder by operatives of Saudi Arabia — and support Trump’s continued aversion to a forceful response to the oil-rich desert kingdom.

Gotta love this bit

Donald Trump Jr., the president’s eldest son and key political booster, shared another person’s tweet last week with his millions of followers that included a line that Khashoggi was “tooling around Afghanistan with Osama bin Laden” in the 1980s, even though the context was a feature story on bin Laden’s activities.

yeah and a lot of CIA operatives were “tooling around Afghanistan with Osama bin Laden” back then, him being a US asset and all
