Yes, he did do that, but his increase in defense spending dwarfed it. Trump has made some decent inroads in deregulation and cutting through the government bullshit. But he is not a deficit hawk by any stretch of the imagination. That's why the deficit is going up at a rate no different than when Obama was in office. It's not important to Trump, most republicans and all democrats.

Social Security and Medicare goes to everyone, even the wealthy. It will need to be means tested at some point because there isn't enough money to cover everyone anymore. Medicaid is for the poor, and I can accept a safety net for them. But even then, I want a far more efficient system to serve them.

Sorta depends what you pay in. My mom gets about 2 grand a month, and of course most of her medical bills are paid. She also has a supplemental plan that covers other things that medicare doesn't cover, or gives her higher end facilities that other's wouldn't get. Nothing fancy, just not the bottom of the barrel.

I pay about $500/month for insurance that really doesn't cover everything but protects me from something catostrophic.

Good news MD - Single Payer is a more efficient system.

Rather than having thousands of different products being marketed, sold - so having commissions paid, claimed against, disputed etc etc etc you get one customer saying OK hip replacements cost £8,500 -roughly $11,000 - instead of a market for replacement hips that drives up the cost to $31,500. The customer - who in this case is a tax payer who pays for healthcare as a part of general taxation - is $20,000 to the good.

Our military spends more than about the next 8 countries combined. We are never going to tackle our debt issues without drastically cutting out military spending. Out biggest threat is not a foreign power but our own spending.
