Trump declares a state of emergency to bypass democracy

Trump's communication to congress reads
I hereby report that I have issued the enclosed Executive Order (the “order”) declaring a national emergency with respect to the unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security, foreign policy, and economy of the United States posed by serious human rights abuse and corruption around the world.

The order blocks the property and interests in property of persons listed in the Annex to the order. It also blocks the property and interests in property of any foreign person determined by the Secretary of the Treasury, in consultation with the Secretary of State and the Attorney General…

Although he hasn't actually done so yet I don't think the source article is against Trump declaring a State of Emergency.

In another nod to the symptoms of a society headed towards Totalitarianism we're seeing a rise in political violence, and worryingly no attempt by the mainstream Republicans to bring the radical element to heel.

No I think it's how Totalitarianism starts.

Nice try at a strawman - and extra points for being logged in while you make the attempt.

Really?

Someone whacks some one else with a selfie stick and gets fined $300 and now democracy is teetering on the edge?

The Annex to the order lists the 13 people Trump is specifically targeting with the order, though others will certainly be impacted by it.

Their identities are uninteresting to most readers. What’s important is that this president is DEAD SERIOUS not only about making America great again at home, but also about returning America to a true leadership role on the world stage.

For those confused by Maddog's reference to 13 people the article does say Trump has named 13 people in his Executive Order

Democracy?
You're having a laugh.
Is this democracy in the home of the brave land of the free ...... Democrats Join Republicans In Bill Criminalizing Speech Critical Of Israel

I cannot imagine any reason for this egregious offense against the First Amendment except to please AIPAC and their AIPAC associated donors.
With Trump as president, it is easy to forget how utterly hopeless many Congressional Democrats are, including many who look like progressives.

The best indicator of Democratic corruption is its slavishness toward the lobby that is to them what the National Rifle Association is to the GOP: the Israel lobby (the American Israel Public Affairs Committee and its satellite organizations).
The latest evidence of that slavishness comes in the form of growing support among Democrats in both Houses for legislation sponsored by Sen. Benjamin Cardin (D-MD) and co-sponsored by Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer that would make it a felony for Americans to support the international boycott against Israel, commonly known as BDS. Anyone guilty of violating the prohibitions will face a minimum civil penalty of $250,000 and a maximum criminal penalty of $1 million and 20 years in prison.

Anyone guilty of violating the prohibitions will face a minimum civil penalty of $250,000 and a maximum criminal penalty of $1 million and 20 years in prison.

What the hell is wrong with you Americans?
This is the kind of stuff that is certain to breed anti semitism.
Any other country on the planet you can't criticize?
Americans never stop criticizing other nations even boycotting their economics and trade via sanctions all over the place.
Any of you Yanks on here support this?
Any of you vote for it?
