Not sure what made you think Labour would vote for something that has no chance of winning. They will abstain.

However, once A50 has been extended and no concensus has emerged (my deal or no deal) the second referendum becomes a viable proposal that can be pushed by Labour.

Motion for extension to call for a referendum failed. So if we're going to have a referendum sometime in the future (that will require an extension) then presumably that means we can leave with no deal if we're just going to ignore the results of the motions.

The vote to extend A50 hasn't happened yet.

BREAKING Brexit: MPs vote to reject holding a second EU referendum

It comes after the People's Vote campaign said it was the wrong time for the amendment

MPs have voted to reject holding a second referendum on leaving the EU.

It was the first time MPs had a chance to vote on a people's vote and they rejected it by 334 votes to 85 - a majority of 249.

The call was put in an amendment by former Tory now Independent Group MP Sarah Wollaston.

But after being selected it quickly became clear that it did not have enough support to pass the house.

Thats not really accurate. Benn's amendment called for MPs to take charge of the house next week, in order to have ways forward debated, and indicative votes taken. However, May fully intends to bring back her bloody awful, completely discredited plan for a THIRD time hoping that the ERG etc will chicken out and wave it through.

If it fails (and it should) May has agreed that at that point those same debates and votes on a way forward will take place. She will have to extend A50 at that point.

Yes but depending on her reason for the extension it may not be enough time for a referendum.

If a referendum turns out to be the percieved way forward, she will have to ask fr a longer extension. Then it rests with the EU.

Because of this maybe?

"Labour delegates have approved a motion that would keep all options - including a fresh referendum - on the table if MPs are deadlocked over Brexit.
It was passed by a show of hands at the party conference in Liverpool."

and this:

"John McDonnell has said Labour will “inevitably” back a second referendum if the party is unable to force a general election, in comments widely regarded as marking a shift in Labour’s position."
https://www.theguardian.com/politics/20 ... -mcdonnell

and this:

"Labour has said it is prepared to back another EU referendum to prevent a "damaging Tory Brexit".
Jeremy Corbyn has told Labour MPs the party will move to back another vote if their own proposed Brexit deal is rejected on Wednesday."
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-47363307

and this:

Labour's shadow Brexit secretary Sir Keir Starmer confirmed the party's new policy in an interview with BBC Radio 4's Today programme.
He said Labour would attempt to get its own Brexit proposals through Parliament on Wednesday.
But if that failed then the party would back another referendum, he added."

If there was ever the wrong end of the stick, we could always rely on Drongo to grab it.

Labour will still, as planned, push for an election. Then a deal including a customs union, etc. If that fails, the next possibility is a second referendum. Doubtless all possibilities will arise if (and when) Treeza's miserable deal is voted out yet again. She has already promised talks and indicative votes for viable solutions - and that is the point at which a People's Vote may be the only alternative that can get through parliament.

Sorry if this is a bit difficult for you, Mango. It has been explained so many times, but for some reason you keep coming back acting thick.

You always have trouble with quite simple concepts don't you?

A second referendum is Labour's policy - which they have just rejected in Parliament.

What do you find confusing about the Labour conference resolution?
Or John McDonnell's statement?
Or Labour's confirmation
Or Starmer's endorsement of a 2nd referendum?
He spelled it out quite clearly: "if that failed then the party would back another referendum"
no mention of the bullshit that you have posted

The general election won't happen
Parliament has rejected all of Labour's proposals for the customs union

Labour has this evening voted down their own policy.
What a bunch of plonkers
Just like their fanboys on here.
