Christchurch mosque shootings: Several dead after New Zealan

Postby Cactus Jack » Fri Mar 15, 2019 6:39 am

There are multiple fatalities after shootings at two mosques in the city of Christchurch, New Zealand police have said.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern described it as a terrorist attack, and one of the country's "darkest days".

Three men and one woman are in custody, police commissioner Mike Bush said, but warned more suspects may be at large.

Australia's Prime Minister Scott Morrison said one of those arrested was an Australian citizen.

He described the suspected attacker as an "extremist right-wing violent terrorist".

With the Trumpist/Brexit sort of unreasoning hatred given free reign for over three years it was only a matter of time before an incident of this type happened. I'm just surprised it wasn't the USA or the UK first.

Right this minute 40 confirmed dead...something like this has never happened before in NZ. Goes to show, hate will cross all borders.
This truly is a very sad day for New Zealand and especially for Christchurch, hopefully this was a one off and not the end of a safe and terrorist free NZ. My heart goes out to the victims and their families.

That bloke responsible for the attacks said on social media that he didn't want to target NZ to begin with, he had another country in mind but changed his mind to show the world that it's nowhere safe anymore :shake head:

he says in his manifesto that he was 'radicalised' in 2017 whilst travelling, particularly in france, after the terrorist attacks and how he saw immigrants everywhere.

Seeing immigrants makes a person want to kill innocent people? Wow.

Maybe now far right racist websites will be taken more seriously, the guy arrested wasn’t on anyone’s radar.

His manifesto is named after a book by Renaud Camus

Another sad day of terrorist attacks. As usual it’s the innocent people who suffer from these cowards and their attacks on soft targets.

Just waiting for the obvious link to our mate Tommy, as his 'manifesto' cited multiple child grooming cases in Northern England and references white nationalist stories and issues promoted online. It also names right-wing personalities as inspiration for carrying out the shooting.

Utterly pointless carnage motivated by pure hate - though no doubt some will inevitably argue insanity. And in NZ of all places. :shake head:

Carnage is right, I've not seen such a brutal video before.

Perhaps this internet thing isn't such a great idea after all.

It is perhaps the truest reflection of humankind so far - and facing the truth about ourselves is the beginning of our redemption...

...I hope.

Though it's fucking hard not to be angry or despaired at times.

Are you making excuses for him? :yikes: :yikes:
Since when has there been a valid reason for terrorism?
Terror attacks are horrific whether they come from the left or right or from whichever religion.

Yes. Telling you in his own words what led him to think the way he does is me making excuses for him.
