Yes, we know McAz, but this is a thread about trains, not cars.

Did you read the original article I posted? It mentions how some significant rail lines were closed in the Lake District/Cumbria area.

I instantly had to find out who was singing this little gem .... went out and bought three albums.

I remember that ad - the music was better than the trains which were anything but relaxing.

It's relevant because it cites the lack of trains.

It's not appropriate to discuss your linked article here since it is political.

Fair enough. They were going to electrify Oxenholme to Windermere, but that got shelved. You have to ask just why. It's only a short section of line.

I recall you mentioned this some time ago - are there new developments?

Not as far as I know, other than using class 769 Flex trains.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windermer ... n_proposal

Funnily enough, class 319's were primarily used on the Bedford - Luton - London St Pancras - Brighton, plus the Sutton loop services, with class 377 and 387 used as an interim measure, until the class 700's were rolled out. The former units have been cascaded elsewhere.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Rail_Class_700

Northern Rail are due to receive a large batch of new trains in the near future, including getting rid of the Pacer trains which do not meet DDA standards. Plus, they're crap trains anyway, known as 'nodding donkeys'.

Missed this bit. I don't think it a hard and fast rule that anything political can't be discussed in other forums.

I won't take the risk - political debates get heated and the Snug is traditionally for nice things like new-born lambs and crocheting.

I know why Chris Grayling cancelled various electrification projects, citing bi-mode trains were sufficient and electrification was too disruptive. Most of western Europe begs to differ, notably France, Germany, Italy and Spain.

Bi-mode trains have their uses, but shouldn't be used as an excuse to cancel electrification projects.

Bi-mode trains have disadvantages over electric-only traction.

They are less energy efficient in diesel mode.
They are less environmentally friendly in diesel mode.
They have poorer acceleration in diesel mode.
They are more expensive to produce than electric-only trains, as they also have diesel engines, which also adds to the weight.
They are more expensive to maintain.
They are noisier than electric-only trains especially if there are underfloor engines.

Having said that the class 800s are pretty good in diesel mode regarding noise and acceleration, but still under par compared when in electric mode.

Yes McAz. You've already said that once. I'm not a five-year-old, so try and stop talking to me as if I am. And I am learned, so you can't use that as a scoring mechanism. We just have a difference of opinion. Just because people don't agree with you, doesn't automatically make them thick/stupid.

No, you're a genuine idiot. Stick to trolling, whoring and trains.

Did you forget anything?

Just let the old drug-addled fool get on with it.

Oh and I forgot to wish you a happy birthday, old bean.

Thanks jra  I had a good time over quite a few days. :more beer:
I am having a rest of booze today with my liver and kidneys drying out on the radiator. :smilin:
I am doing so because I have a trip to Hereford on GWR to go a brother's birthday next weekend.
That will be a session. :awesome:

Have a good time. You were asking me about trains. Let me know how it went on Great Wanker Railway in the Snug.
