You know that's why ALL opposition parties said no to an election. You know it, you are just too frit to admit it. And you are wrong about who will choose when the election happens too - because when Labour decides to play the card, a vote of no confidence will do the trick, WHEN WE ARE READY.

I guess you have to stop the dramatic slide in the polls first.

Then Corbyn has to make his mind up whether he's Leave or Remain

"Mr Corbyn is due to meet union leaders on Tuesday to discuss the issue.
He has not said whether he would campaign for Remain or a Labour Leave deal if he became prime minister."

Bonkers Boris has had his bounce, such as it was. As far as I know, Corbyn and the Labour stance remains exactly as it has for the last year, despite stupid Tories pretending not to understand it.

They will campaign at a general election for re-negotiating a deal with the EU during the A50 extension that Bojo (or his successor) will have to ask for and then putting that deal to the people in a second referendum.

So simple, even you can understand it and perhaps inform Tory HQ.

That's right
Even today Corbyn can't say if he's Leave or Remain.

He doesn't have to - his policy and that of his party is there for all to see. The people will decide, not Corbyn, Johnson or Johnson's successor.

Any ideas on who that might be, by the way?

All this talk about getting another three month extension is like making promises with your fingers crossed behind your back.
It isn't up to this country whether or not we get an extension.
We can ask for one .... doesn't mean we'll get one.
France are always on the edge of saying no fuck off.
Boris can charm or con just one nation to say no fuck off and its all gone in a puff of smoke.
We're going to crash out.

so much for that vote. I figured the EU wouldn't let you guys leave--esp with most conservatives even against Brexit.
Now all you who voted Brexit be good little boys and girls and take your proper place. It was a fun playgame--that little vote we had.
So behave yourselves or we are gonna scream and cry and whine about all the horrible things that will happen if Brexit happens.
If you are good we will allow a 'Brexit' that really isn't a Brexit so everyone can feel good about themselves.

The EU are letting us leave, our own Lord Kerr actually wrote the Article 50 rule that we are supposed to leave over.

Article 50

1. Any Member State may decide to withdraw from the Union in accordance with its own constitutional requirements.

2. A Member State which decides to withdraw shall notify the European Council of its intention. In the light of the guidelines provided by the European Council, the Union shall negotiate and conclude an agreement with that State, setting out the arrangements for its withdrawal, taking account of the framework for its future relationship with the Union. That agreement shall be negotiated in accordance with Article 218(3) of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union. It shall be concluded on behalf of the Union by the Council, acting by a qualified majority, after obtaining the consent of the European Parliament.

3. The Treaties shall cease to apply to the State in question from the date of entry into force of the withdrawal agreement or, failing that, two years after the notification referred to in paragraph 2, unless the European Council, in agreement with the Member State concerned, unanimously decides to extend this period.

4. For the purposes of paragraphs 2 and 3, the member of the European Council or of the Council representing the withdrawing Member State shall not participate in the discussions of the European Council or Council or in decisions concerning it.

A qualified majority shall be defined in accordance with Article 238(3)(b) of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union.

5. If a State which has withdrawn from the Union asks to rejoin, its request shall be subject to the procedure referred to in Article 49.

Paragraph three is my favourite.

The EU did not do this to us, we did this to us. :brickwall:

I got this in response to the recent petition against prorogation of parliament, usually it's just a polite 'fuck you' but this one's a party political broadcast.

The Government has responded to the petition you signed – “Do not prorogue Parliament”.

Government responded:

Prorogation is a prerogative Act of the Crown, exercised on the advice of Ministers. We must respect the referendum result and the UK will be leaving the EU on 31 October whatever the circumstances.

The UK will be leaving the EU on 31 October whatever the circumstances. We must respect the referendum result.

Prorogation is a prerogative Act of the Crown, exercised on the advice of Ministers, to bring about the end of the parliamentary session. The royal prerogative is the term used to describe the powers held by Government Ministers, either in their own right, or through the advice they provide to the Queen which she is bound constitutionally to follow. The Government determines the length of a parliamentary session and advises the Queen on the date for the beginning of the next parliamentary session.

The beginning of the next session is marked by the State Opening of Parliament during which the Queen delivers the Queen’s Speech. The Queen’s Speech sets out the programme of legislation the Government intends to pursue in the forthcoming parliamentary session.

As the Prime Minister said in his statement on 2 September 2019, the Government has committed to recruiting another 20,000 police officers, improving both NHS and schools funding, and completing 20 new hospital upgrades. It is to progress the Government’s agenda on these and many other fronts that the Prime Minister has sought to commence a new session of Parliament in October.

Parliament is only dissolved before a General Election. Dissolution brings an end to a Parliament. The effect of a dissolution is all business comes to an end and every seat in the House of Commons is vacated until a General Election is held.

Under the Fixed-term Parliaments Act 2011, General Elections are now automatically held every five years and the next general election is scheduled for May 2022. The Fixed-term Parliaments Act removed the prerogative power to dissolve Parliament; no longer can the Prime Minister advise the sovereign to dissolve Parliament and call a General Election.

The Fixed-term Parliaments Act also provides the basis on which an early General Election can be triggered:

1. If a motion for an early general election is agreed either by at least two-thirds of the whole House of Commons or without a vote; or

2. If a motion of ‘no confidence’, in the terms set out in the Fixed-term Parliaments Act, is passed and no subsequent motion expressing confidence in Her Majesty’s Government is passed by the Commons within 14 days.

In the event of an early-general election, the Fixed-term Parliaments Act allows the Prime Minister to recommend a suitable polling day to the Queen. There will be a Royal Proclamation to set the date. Parliament is then automatically dissolved 25 working days before polling day.

The Government would prefer to leave the EU with a deal and will work in an energetic and determined way to get a better deal. The Government is very willing to sit down with the Commission and EU Member States to talk about what needs to be done to achieve that.

The Prime Minister has said an election needs to take place ahead of the European Council on 17 to 18 October. This would allow the Prime Minister to go to the European Council with a clear mandate from the British people to deliver the referendum result.

I really wouldn't expect you to grasp this, but the EU have made no attempts whatsoever to stop us leaving..

Here's the problem. Rather than just leave, which would be an economic disaster as agreed by the government themselves, our negotiators decided that it would be great if, despite leaving the club and paying no dues, we should still get to use all the facilities.

You might see a problem or two there, but anyway the EU offered us many of the benefits for free - we could leave the customs union and get rid of free movement for instance, but still get a pretty good trade deal.

Sadly our MPs on one side were unhappy because no customs union means loss of jobs, while many MPs on the government side thought the deal left us too close to the EU!! They also objected to the so-called Backstop (intended to retain the integrity of the North - Southern Irish border when the North is no longer in the EU.

Both voted 3 times against the deal, our problem - not the EU's.

Meanwhile the Tory government lost the leader after the deal she negotiated didn't pass. We then got an idiot for PM (a Trump clone, in fact) who kicked 21 MPs out of his party leaving him with no majority and no power to force through a no-deal Brexit.

And here we are. Blaming the EU is the stuff of a failed government desperate to blame anyone but themselves. The rest of us know different.
