GLOBAL CLIMATE STRIKE

This September, millions of us will walk out of our workplaces and homes to join young climate strikers on the streets and demand an end to the age of fossil fuels.

Our house is on fire — let’s act like it. We demand climate justice for everyone.

Because 'Everything Is on Fire,' Nearly 1,000 Amazon Workers Pledge to Walk Out and Join Global Climate Strike on Sept. 20

"We understand the threat of the climate crisis and want to work for a company that makes climate a priority."

To protest the retail behemoth's contributions to the climate crisis and persistent refusal to change course, nearly 1,000 Amazon workers have pledged to walk off the job on Sept. 20 in solidarity with the millions of people across the world expected to take part in this month's global climate strike.

Ironically I'm on my hollybobs that week. I plan on being in the Piano bar with Raven and on the streets with SODEM at Whitehall Watch. :twirl:

Personally I don't care where anyone does their activism as long as it's for the right thing, remain tend to rub along quite well with ER anyway

So far we have a choice between events in Penrith or Dumfries. Probably choose Scotland because they have better Aldis there. :smilin:

The evidence is suggesting the Amazon fires have been deliberate corporate agricultural acts.

The sun keeps all life on earth going strong but .....

Spray sun-blocking chemicals into atmosphere to cut global temperature rise in half, scientists say

So the sun is now seen as our enemy!

Devastating Fires in Bolivia: A Political Tool
Uncontrolled fires linked to agricultural expansions are being used as a political tool during this election year in Bolivia and are causing catastrophic consequences

The fires in the lowlands of Bolivia have burnt more than 1 million hectares, affecting forest reserves, protected areas and national parks. These fires represent the environmental tensions generated by the agricultural extractivism (McKay, 2018) that the drives the Bolivian government, which in recent years has favoured the agribusiness and livestock sectors, through laws and political agreements and, generating an agro-state alliance based around land occupation as a source of wealth.

In this light, we can see that the fires and deforestation that is occurring within Bolivia is matching up with global agricultural trends, where the agro-state alliance obeys the demands of the multinational food companies, who dictate that monocultures should be grown in the Southern Cone countries. At the same time, the model is used politically by the government who can give land to farmers in protected areas, ignoring the significance of the land and the irreparable ecological damage.

It's more a matter of pay people to look after the rain forests it's the cheapest sanest option long term.
Telling me having a log fire and driving my vehicles is to blame is bollox when you're ripping the lungs of the world out!
Those forests and new ones should be growing especially with the increased CO2 available and they will drink in the CO2 and return oxygen.
Everyone should be planting stuff that breathes CO2 in and oxygen out.

That's the bit I don't get Jack. I learnt about trees/plants taking in CO2 and emitting oxygen in school...a long time ago. How in the hell have people forgotten or never actually known this happens? It's the obvious solution of something that is produced naturally and has been for, well all time to date.

Despite this we have rapacious corporations ripping out forests for grazing cattle, growing stuff or for it's hardwoods. We have councils removing trees, areas cleared for corporate house builders, gardens being a thing of the past. None or next to none in new builds, sold off for another house in older large garden properties or paved over with a patio heater, barbecue and a place for cars.

NASA's Earth Science News Team

Carbon Dioxide Fertilization Greening Earth, Study Finds

From a quarter to half of Earth’s vegetated lands has shown significant greening over the last 35 years largely due to rising levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide, according to a new study published in the journal Nature Climate Change on April 25.

An international team of 32 authors from 24 institutions in eight countries led the effort, which involved using satellite data from NASA’s Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectrometer and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer instruments to help determine the leaf area index, or amount of leaf cover, over the planet’s vegetated regions. The greening represents an increase in leaves on plants and trees equivalent in area to two times the continental United States.

Green leaves use energy from sunlight through photosynthesis to chemically combine carbon dioxide drawn in from the air with water and nutrients tapped from the ground to produce sugars, which are the main source of food, fiber and fuel for life on Earth. Studies have shown that increased concentrations of carbon dioxide increase photosynthesis, spurring plant growth.

However, carbon dioxide fertilization isn’t the only cause of increased plant growth—nitrogen, land cover change and climate change by way of global temperature, precipitation and sunlight changes all contribute to the greening effect. To determine the extent of carbon dioxide’s contribution, researchers ran the data for carbon dioxide and each of the other variables in isolation through several computer models that mimic the plant growth observed in the satellite data.

Results showed that carbon dioxide fertilization explains 70 percent of the greening effect, said co-author Ranga Myneni, a professor in the Dep>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> https://www.nasa.gov/feature/goddard/20 ... ning-earth

These dates are off the top of my head but I know they're near enough correct and the 2020 one is one hundred percent accurate.

Scientists told the world that around 1946 we would enter a cooling period which would end around 1973.
I was a kid in the 50's and 60's and every family had a steel and timber sledge in the shed or hung on a wall because every winter was snowmen frost icicles dragging the weekly veg shop home on the sledge.
1973 arrives and the winters start getting milder and the scientists said this warming period that had now begun would end and go back to a cooling period .... around 20 20 .... well here we are at 2020 will our science prove to be correct or the false news media?
In the warming period of the 70's the news was we might be heading for another ice age!
The last half decent cooling period lasted from 1300 to 1850 so that's a pretty lengthy one but not sure what the MSM have to say about it.
Thing is the climate never stops changing warming cooling wet dry despite whether or not we have gas fired power stations and diesel cars.
What triggered the big ice age that covered the northern hemisphere?
It wasn't man and his machines.
We are still in that ice age at the later stages of it.
Take core samples in the arctic circle and you find the evidence of lush forests teeming with animal life.
So the earth before the age age was a lot warmer and greener than it is now.
The poles are still covered in ice often miles thick meaning all the ice has not yet melted meaning we are still in that ice age.
