Yesterday I came back after a week's holiday in south Devon. I've got a lovely souvenir. After going to a couple of pubs in London (near Euston) with my best mate we were catching a train home from St. Pancras International. My mate was on the train and I about 10 metres behind with a very heavy rucksack. The doors were going to close (beeping), so I attempted to rush onto the train. The next thing I know I've lost my footing and fallen onto the platform in severe pain. The platform guard helped me to my feet and my mate pulled the rucksack onto the train.

At Luton I was offered a lift to L&D A&E by car from a guy who witnessed the incident.

After extensive tests/checks, blood test, ECG, intravenous drip etc., it turns out I've fractured my right humerus in 3 different places.After about 5-6 hours I was discharged from A&E. It's the first bone I've ever broken. My arm is in a sling and I'm on the painkillers.

Indeed. Not only that, the weight of the rucksack added to the impact force onto the platform when I fell. I've grounded my rucksack for at least a couple of months. However, it also broke my fall in that I didn't get any (serious) head or neck injuries. You've got to count your blessings, as things could have been a whole lot worse.

It's my right arm which is broken, but I'm predominantly left-handed, so again it's the better arm to break for me if you had to choose one or the other.

I'm fairly ambidextrous as well.
