LordRaven wrote:Three part series starting tonight on BBC 1, and well worth watching as this adaptation tries to stay true to the original book with the invasion taking place in Woking and Surrey --sadly they make it Edwardian (1905) and not Victorian 1890's when the book was published and wherein Wells envisaged inter-planetary travel, lasers, chemical and biological warfare plus terraforming and even his predicted evolution of man in the shape of the more advanced Martians.

Very good

Drifted on timeline to show the extent of Terraforming on behalf of those beastly Martians and the exaggerated pomposity and superiority complex of the dastardly English - about to get one hell of a kicking- to extremes but on the whole it was good and I am looking forward to next Sunday.

Some liking it to a Downton Abbey scandal, a man co-habiting with his bit on the side having binned the wife, was amusing but the characters had to built in episode one I suppose --along with hints that Robert Carlyle's character is perhaps gay.

Some great locations though, apparently Liverpool and not Woking, and period costumes gave it a real feel for the time that Wells wrote it for though and the absolute futility of human technology at that time to cope with superior beings wanting their planet.
