Obscure medical conditions!

Postby dr synne » Thu Feb 13, 2020 6:49 pm

Anyone got any obscure medical condition that no one's heard of and think you're slacking when you're having an episode.

I have a vestibular disorder, causes imbalance, fatigue and poor concentration. Getting a cold can send me off whack for a month or more but with no outward symptoms people think I'm swinging the lead.

Best way to describe it is having too much to drink at lunchtime, after the nice parts worn off and you're stuck at work feeling like shit.

https://vestibular.org/understanding-ve ... r/symptoms

Appears to be getting worse now and seem to have more bad days than good.

I have Scheuermann’s disease

brought on they think by injuries horseriding

however although I suffered as a teen, I rarely have any symptoms now even though I was told that I'd suffer with an arthritic spine as I got older

I rarely think about it tbh

Lucky to be symptom free then. Do you think it might come on in later years?

Not sure about obscure but ....
I am T2 and have it mostly under very good control drug free.
I have COPD.
I have arthritis from top to bottom of my spine.
I have a slight scoliosis.
I have blood pressure problems mostly under control drug free.
I have to watch cholesterol but have it under control .... drug free.
I have benign tumors all over my spinal cord which give me some serious problems.
Spinal cord is part of the brain and effects controls everything below the base of your skull.
Twenty years ago I had arthritis and had learned to live with it .... nothing else.
The last few weeks you wouldn't know looking at me that I had any serious health problems but .... I do have an electric wheelchair to manage Tesco and the like but .... haven't had to use it for weeks.
When I see specialists or just doc at surgery .... they get a pretty good picture .... he's arrived from the car park on foot .... he's in the wheelchair.
Heart liver kidneys all in tip top condition which is a bit strange.
Ten years ago I wouldn't have dreamed I'd be typing any of this beyond the arthritis.
I'm getting close to seventy and on the whole things aren't too bad.
Tonight I'm sipping whiskey and reckon I can get another ten years like this .... might be wrong.
Maybe five years but ten years before I croak.

Anybody that takes the piss would just prove themselves to be morally degenerate - unless it is done between friends under the context of friendship - but that is generally not the case between individuals online. Sometimes you might meet up with people online with similar conditions so you can learn from each others experiences maybe, or meet up with a medical doctor or medical scientist who might be willing to engage and advise on certain things. As always the internet can be a source of good or bad but in general it is a source of noise. Trolls contribute to that noise.

A touch of humour depending on your preferences.

Looking at those symptoms I’ve also had vertigo, nothing to do with heights, more to do with extreme stress so I really sympathise if you get that dizziness with it. Tinnitus has been on and off most of my life, nothing too serious there though, just the occasional ringing like radio waves passing through or a low hum. Haven’t had that for a few years though.

Have you looked into natural remedies? A healthy diet is crucial. We are what we eat/drink.

Paralysed vocal cord, not great, but it is what it is! I'm used to it now, so are my friends and family. And my gf has only ever known me with a hoarse voice, it doesn't bother her. My only gripe is that I can't shout at idiots in work anymore!

At one point it was so debilitating that I would have drunk goats piss if it would have helped. Since being diagnosed with it I take betahistine and fins paracetamol to work well on the dYs the other tablet isn't work so good. Got tinnitiss also constant. These days it's stress or illness that trigger it the most. Kept a track on my diet d nt seem to make much difference.

Always open to any natural remedies though

Nothing as far as i know, the Dr originally thought i had laryngitis until it didn't get any better, that's when he sent me to hospital to get checked out. Speech therapy helped very slightly, but that was all. I'm ok with it, and i'm told my whisper is very sexy. Or was it creepy? No, fuck it, i'm going with sexy :pmsl:
