Frank, at the point this was all going on in the eyes of the law he wasn't guilty of stabbing her. He hadn't been found guilty of committing a crime, there is nothing confusing about the presumption of innocence unil a judgement of guilt in the law courts.

Unfortunately for this girl it seems that when a trial collapses as the first one did then it is as if it never happened and it has to be started all over again.
